NEW PRODUCT: Simplera Sync Sensor for MiniMed 780G system
Insulin pump manufacturer MiniMed has announced it has received a Health Canada licence for a new sensor for its insulin delivery system.
The Simplera Sync Sensor for the MiniMed 780G system is a disposable sensor that requires no fingersticks, no overtape and features a simple, two-step insertion process. The company says the new sensor is designed offer a more comfortable experience while reducing the daily burden of diabetes management.
“This license is a milestone for the diabetes community here in Canada,” Chet Patel, the company’s senior business director, said in a news release. “At MiniMed, our mission is to make every day a better day for people with diabetes. By continuing to evolve the MiniMed 780G system—including the addition of our Simplera Sync sensor and indication for adults 18 and older with type 2—we’re closer to that vision than ever before.”
Software features for the MiniMed 780G system include meal detection technology, which automatically identifies when a user has eaten and adjusts insulin levels accordingly, and SmartGuard, which helps manage glucose levels by automatically adjusting basal insulin and delivering corrections every five minutes
MiniMed says the Simplera Sync sensor will be availble in Canada “later this year,” but currently, the MiniMed 780G system can be used with the Guardian 4 sensor.
