NEW PRODUCT: Stiletto extended‑dwell catheter
U.S.-based medical devices manufacturer Vygon Corporation has announced it has received Health Canada approval for its new generation of catheters.
The Stiletto extended‑dwell catheter is a sterile single-use medical device that allows healthcare professionals to sample blood and administer fluid for a duration of under 28 days.
The device uses a patented insertion system called SlipStream, designed to eliminate the need for guidewires and multiple insertion steps, reducing complexity for healthcare professionals.
“This approval reflects our strong commitment to supporting Canadian healthcare professionals with high‑quality, innovative medical devices,” Vygon USA CEO Peter Ciriello said in a news release. “Stiletto’s SlipStream technology presents clinicians with a simpler, safer and more intuitive technique for inserting extended‑dwell catheters, delivering significant improvements in patient comfort, safety and care efficiency.”
NIPRO Canada will be the distributor for the country, although Vygon has yet to announce when the catheters will be available for purchase. In the U.S., the products come in boxes of 20, 20-gauge catheters available in 8 cm and 10 cm lengths and 18-gauges available in 10 and 12 cm lengths.
