NEW PRODUCT: Dexcom G7 15 Day continuous glucose monitoring system
Health Canada has authorized the Dexcom G7 15 Day continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) system for adults aged 18 years and older living with diabetes.
Designed to reduce the number of sensor changes a patient requires each month, the new device extends sensor wear to 15.5 days, making it the longest-lasting CGM authorized in Canada, according to Dexcom.
The company also says it is the most accurate CGM currently authorized by Health Canada, with an overall mean absolute relative difference (MARD) of 8.0%. The sensor is waterproof and can be submerged under water for up to 24 hours.
The device includes the same features as the existing Dexcom G7 system, including direct connectivity with Apple Watch, a 12-hour grace period to replace sensors and remote data sharing with caregivers.
Although the device has been authorized by Health Canada, it is not yet available for purchase. Dexcom says it will announce availability at a later date after preparing education resources for healthcare providers.
