Indigenous Services Minister Mandy Gull-Masty is expected on Thursday to announce a $738.9-million funding package for First Nations healthcare, governance and emergency management.
Ottawa has clarified that nurse practitioner services equivalent to what physicians provide are covered by the Canada Health Act’s requirement that medically necessary services are publicly funded, and gave provinces until April 1 to do so.
The bill aims to overhaul Bill P-38, or the Act respecting the protection of persons whose mental state presents a danger to themselves or to others, adopted in 1998.
A statement from the association's president applauded the budgets focus on specialists—but emphasized a lack action on another healthcare province from the current government.
