The irony is I do not yet consider myself a successful entrepreneur and that’s in large part probably what continues to drive me. I don’t view entrepreneurship as some mountain-top or destination you reach, rather a continuous journey to explore, ideate, attempt, fail, rinse and repeat.

Focus on the area where your passion to help others truly shines, then continue to grow, build and learn around this niche. Remember, every person you meet has something to teach you; embrace the mentality of a lifelong learner. As you gain wisdom, share your time, knowledge and passion every opportunity you get, and watch this beautiful cycle of learning and sharing grow into a fulfilling business.

The challenges from third party payors and governments are probably some of the biggest challenges we face as entrepreneurs. Pharmacy is a low-hanging fruit and whenever there are any budgetary cutbacks, we are easy pickings. It is definitely time for our profession to be proactive rather than reactive in order for us to thrive.

No formal studies can always prepare you for what one will need or learn as an entrepreneur and business leader. We learn as we go, by taking risks, making mistakes and wrong decisions.

I never thought I would take on more than an hourly paycheque as a pharmacist. Organically, I was pulled toward growing responsibilities in exciting ventures that complemented my patient care duties. Over 15 years of practising, new doors opened that led to a host of enriching activities.
