It’s the first contract since the nurses—and other broader public sector workers—were subject for three years to a wage restraint law known as Bill 124, which capped increases at 1% a year.

All physicians will see salary increases each year, over the the four-year agreements.

The severe disruptions are the latest in months of industrial action by public sector workers amid U.K.’s ongoing cost-of-living crisis.

The government does have data on the hours paramedics spend waiting in emergency rooms to transfer patients to the care of a hospital, which are often a key factor in ambulance availability, but won’t disclose it.

The province says the four-year deal features record additional funding of $268 million.

The pharmacy chain, which has 430 branches in Quebec and New Brunswick, says it the loan will help it create 230 jobs.

The new funding is on top of $90 million a year from the province to reward ERs that put in place what the government calls innovative solutions to reduce wait times.
