Not infrequently at our walk-in clinic, we see a patient who has suffered a laceration—self-inflicted or in an accident.

As a travelling physician in northern Ontario, Dr. Dannica Switzer is acutely aware of the healthcare crisis in underserved communities.

One of the most profound challenges I encountered during my anesthesia rotation as a third-year medical student wasn’t mastering a technical skill or memorizing drug dosages—it was learning to sit with uncertainty in the operating room.

There was a 32% increase in e-scooter hospitalizations in Canada over a one-year period.

‘It’s this kind of vicarious trauma, this inability to help when we’re helpers, that is causing us to leave,’ Dr. Warren Thirsk said in an interview.

The toolkit, developed by British emergency physician Dr. Liz Herrieven, includes tips on how to communicate properly with patients with learning disabilities or autism, as well as how to avoid missed or diagnoses in these patients.
