The University Health Network in Toronto has opened a 24-hour stand-alone clinic which has resulted in dramatic improvements in ambulance offload times and freed-up beds at the hospital's emergency department.
But not all pharmacists will be able to offer the service immediately, with some requiring additional time to prepare and ramp up the necessary infrastructure.
While DermCafé isn't meant to replace in-person visits with a dermatologist, it can accommodate patients with doctor referrals within a couple of weeks, making a difference for patients who wouldn't otherwise have such prompt access to care.
