Dr. Asante was the first pediatrician in Canada to diagnose fetal alcohol spectrum disorder, and has been a lifelong advocate for people with FASD and for prevention of the disorder.
Since October 2020, Dr. Lavallee has served as the CEO of Keewatinohk Inniniw Minoayawin, a not-for-profit that works closely with Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak Inc.
Led by an award-winning diabetes educator, the pilot project has already signed up more than 50 participants. But food insecurity faced by some of these kids may stir up a few challenges.
