WRITING CONTEST: 2026 Resident Voices contest for medical residents
The Medical Post is pleased to announce the 2026 Write to Win contest for medical residents.
This year, the theme of the contest is Lessons in Communication. As journalists, we understand how crucial effective communication is—and so do Canada’s doctors, whether it be interacting with patients, allied health professionals or their physician peers.
The rules for the contest are simple. Tell us a story. Specifically, tell us a true story that illustrates a lesson you’ve learned about communication. It can be in a medical or non-medical context—as long as you think other medical professionals can take something away from it. Stories should be true, drawn from your own experience, and told in a creative, narrative style.
We'll publish a selection of your stories and, as an additional incentive, our editorial team will select one submission to win a grand prize of a $500 VISA gift card. Two runners-up will receive $250 gift cards.
Essays/stories should be around 600 to 1,200 words. Submit your story as a Word or Google doc. The contest is open to anyone currently enrolled in residency training.
Please include a photo of yourself along with a short bio. If you have a photo to go along with your story, that's welcome as well. Multiple entries are allowed. ChatGPT or other LLM/AI generated text is not allowed. We’re here to foster communication from human to human.

CONTEST RULES:
Contest closes May 10, 2026. Open to Canadian residents who have reached the age of majority in their province/territory. Offer is available to story contest entrants only and cannot be transferred. The classification of who is a story contest entrant will solely be up to the discretion of EnsembleIQ.
Editors will publish a selection of entered stories on CanadianHealthcareNetwork.ca. Submission of a story signifies permission for its publication.
The grand prize is a (1) $500 VISA gift card (value of $500 in Canadian dollars). There are also 2 secondary prizes of Visa gift cards worth $250 each (in Canadian dollars). No cash alternative available. Winners will be selected by the editorial team of the Medical Post once the entry deadline has passed. Prizes will be awarded to winners within 2-4 weeks of the aforementioned winner selection date.
