The pharmacy world comes to Canada, for only second time in history

Pharmacy professionals, researchers and educators from around the world will gather in Montreal in late August for the World Congress of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. The congress is hosted by FIP (International Pharmaceutical Federation) and runs from Sunday, August 30 to Wednesday, September 2 at Montreal’s Palais de congrès. Registration and abstract submissions are now open on the congress website.The theme is “One Health, One Pharmacy—Bridging science, practice and education.” The goal is to examine ways that pharmacy professionals can not only improve the health of individuals, but strengthen public health and contribute to resilient healthcare systems around the globe. The congress has three subthemes:Integrated healthThis subtheme examines the One Health concept, that recognizes challenges to human health, environmental health and healthcare systems are all connected. Sessions will look at examples of how global principles can be applied at a local level, for example, when combating antibiotic resistance.Innovating with purposeThis subtheme explores how innovations that lead to measurable, purposeful advances can shape pharmacy’s future. Sessions will include approaches to improving patient safety and expanding access to care, among others. There’ll be a focus on innovation that responds to local needs and how education can ready the pharmacy workforce to lead.Collaborating for equityThis subtheme will look at models and initiatives that advance health equity at the local, regional and global level. The emphasis will be on collaboration and inclusive practices.Sessions at the congress will also look at how pharmacy professionals can:Improve the responsible use of medicinesSupport better, more efficient and sustainable supply systemsEnsure the healthcare workforcePromote equitable access to essential medicinesSocial events, an additional weekend program and professional tours will round out the program. One professional tour involves site visits to hospital pharmacies in Montreal, although spaces are limited. Registration fees are lower for those who register prior to June 3.Attendees from outside of Canada are encouraged to apply for visas early. FIP has partnered with the Snapsight tool for AI translation of content. It will be available for free through the FIP Congress app.The congress was held in Copenhagen, Denmark in 2025, with more than 3,400 delegates attending.
