When my patient died, it challenged my perception of how doctors are supposed to react
I walked into my family practice office on a typical Tuesday morning and passed by the medical office assistant’s desk. I glanced to my left and saw two large medical charts held together by an elastic band, papers bulging out. A big X was marked on the chart. I quickly realized this chart belonged to a patient of mine who had died. The chart was ready for storage, the final resting place in family practice.
