The perils of sharing patient data
In October 2008, Express Scripts, a major U.S. pharmacy benefit management company, received an extortion letter from someone claiming to have obtained patients'; health information from the firm's databases. Express Scripts manages prescription benefits for some 50 million people through clients such as health insurers and employers.
