Free webinar: De-label that penicillin allergy

Healthcare professionals can join a free webinar on de-labelling penicillin allergies.Many patients believe that they are allergic to penicillin, when they may not have a true allergy or may have outgrown an allergy. These patients are then prescribed less effective antibiotics, which can contribute to the spread of antimicrobial resistance.The webinar will take place on April 14 at 12 p.m. ET over Zoom. It’s free but advance registration is required. It will help healthcare professionals understand the steps to help patients get accurate penicillin allergy labels. The webinar will provide tools and resources to help assess penicillin allergy.The webinar is a collaboration between the Association of Medical Microbiology and Infectious Disease (AMMI) Canada and the National Collaboration Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCCID). It’s one of a series of webinars designed to share information about evidence-based interventions to slow the spread of antimicrobial resistance.The webinar will feature:Dr. Tiffany Wong, pediatric allergist at B.C. Children’s Hospital and a clinical associate professor at the University of British Columbia.Dr. Chelsea Elwood, obstetrician at B.C. Women’s Hospital and clinical associate professor at the University of British Columbia.Haneen Albayati, spread quality improvement lead for the provincial health services authority.Nick Smith, project manager of community antimicrobial stewardship for the B.C. Centre for Disease Control.The speakers are also all involved in Drop the Label, a campaign that has been working to try and get people to achieve accurate penicillin allergy labels.The webinar is not accredited.
