Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis is the most prevalent form of the condition, affecting about 2% of teens. Approximately seven times more teenage girls than boys are afflicted with it, says the report released Monday.
"If these findings are borne out in larger studies over extended follow-up periods, it could possibly be the most dramatic change in treating Type 1 diabetes since the discovery of insulin in 1921,” says the lead author of the study.
