Gender Affirming Care

The unilateral expansion of parental access to youth medical records represents yet another erosion of professional trust, and another step in the progressive deterioration of trust within our province.

Pansexual, asexual, questioning, transgender and two-spirit people had the highest levels of anxiety. They also had, along with lesbians, relatively high levels of depression.

The New Brunswick Transgender Health Network is calling on the regional health authorities and the provincial government to establish a provincial gender-affirming care clinic.

With a number of changes coming to the province, the Alberta College of Pharmacists is still reviewing how some of this new legislation may change things for pharmacy professionals.

A leaked internal memo from the government says the United Conservative Party government plans to apply the the notwithstanding clause for new laws that require parental consent for children to change their names or pronouns in school and that ban transgender girls from competing in female sports.

A summary of the proposed bill provided by the One BC Party says it would have also stopped doctors from providing puberty blockers to minors, prevented the use of ‘wrong pronouns’ in schools and banned the use of public funds for gender transitions.

In a letter published Thursday, AMA president Dr. Shelley Duggan called Bill 26 ‘an incursion into the patient-physician relationship.’

A provincial law will ban doctors from providing gender-affirming treatment such as puberty blockers and hormone therapy for those under 16.
