Tony Nickonchuk is pharmacy manager at Walmart Pharmacy in Peace River, Alberta. A pharmacist for 7 years, he is also a Certified Diabetes Educator, certified injection pharmacist, and has his additional prescribing authorization. He fully utilizes the expanded scope of practice afforded to Alberta\'s pharmacists. He has now completed three clinical trials with the University of Alberta, all which involved initial access prescribing. Tony is currently enrolled in the RxEACH trial, a cardiovascular risk reduction partnership initiative between the University of Alberta, Alberta Health Services, and community pharmacists across the province. Over 1000 patients will be randomized to assess the impact of advanced pharmacist practice on cardiovascular risk reduction. He also does a great deal of travel medicine consultations, including yellow fever immunization. His interest in evidence-based medicine stems from his involvement with the Alberta College of Family Physicians Evidence-Based Medicine team. This involves organizing, promoting, and speaking at their annual primary care conference. He is also co-author on five Tools for Practice, two of which went on to publication in Canadian Family Physician. An avid long distance runner and artisan bread baker, he lives with his wife and three kids in beautiful Peace River.
