Author Profile

Jason Perepelkin, PhD is Assistant Professor of Social & Administrative Pharmacy at the University of Saskatchewan. He teaches in the areas of strategic pharmacy management, marketing for pharmacists, and pharmacy and pharmaceutical policy; his research focuses on marketing for pharmacists, branding, strategic pharmacy management, organizational theory and behaviour, and strategic communications. His teaching is informed by theory where he applies that theory to pharmacy practice and ‘the real world’ in the classroom by continuously engaging with pharmacists and other pharmacy stakeholders. A course in pharmacy management is not something that many student pharmacists anticipate taking when considering courses they will take in preparation for entering the profession; however, one can argue that no matter how much knowledge and expertise one has in therapeutic areas and how to improve outcomes, if you don’t know how to apply that knowledge and expertise in a sustainable manner, you’re no better off than someone who doesn’t have that knowledge and expertise. Similarly, if pharmacists are not well versed in pharmacy management and how to negotiate innovations in practice, in particular to non-pharmacists, then frustration is likely to set in, followed by complacency.
