‘An absolute gem of a dinger’: CIHI celebrates Blue Jays win with new indicator
The Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) is celebrating the Toronto Blue Jays’ first trip to the World Series in 32 years with a new data point.
As of October 2025, CIHI says the number of right knee injuries that “resulted in an absolute gem of a dinger” is currently at one.
“We have, quite recently, become aware of a never-before-tracked indicator. Kindly note that we will be tracking this particular data point until further notice,” CIHI said on social media on Tuesday.
The tongue-in-cheek indicator is a reference to the Blue Jays’ George Springer, who had been hit on the right kneecap by a 154 km/h fastball from the Seattle Mariners’ Bryan Woo on Friday during Game 5 of the American Leage Championship Series.
But Springer quickly bounced back. During Monday’s elimination game, as the Jays were behind by two points, Springer hit a massive three-run homer to seal the deal for Toronto.
