‘Pay it forward’: First five years in practice doctors
Remember the uncertainty of your third year? The anxiety of the Match? The first time you felt like an imposter in the wards?
You made it to the other side. Now, we want to help you send a message back.
We are launching a new series: "The First Five Years." Karina Fainchtein, a second-year medical student at the University of Ottawa, is looking to interview physicians who have finished residency within the last 5 years to share the unvarnished truth about their journey.
We're going to run the series in our well-read Doctor Daily newsletter and it'll be an opportunity for med students and residents to get first hand advice on all the decisions one makes as one goes from learner to doctor.
If you are in your first five years of practice, send Karina a note here.
Email and Zoom/phone options (about 15 minutes) are available
We want to know:
- How did you actually choose your specialty?
- What do you know now that you wish you knew as an MS4?
- What is life really like on the other side?
- Did you choose for lifestyle or passion? (And did it work out?)
- How did you handle the transition from resident to attending?
- What financial or career advice would you give your younger self?
We aren't looking for the textbook answers. We want the real talk.
Pay it forward and help learners.
