At our walk-in clinic, I recently was asked to see a patient with a ‘sore foot.’ The patient had not complained, but his family had noticed a lesion on the sole of his foot and insisted that he seek medical advice.
Very recently, I was consulted by a fair skinned, 43-year-old woman for diagnosis and treatment of a rash on the back of her right hand. The rash had begun around two weeks ago and was spreading, itchy, sore and cracked.
For several years, clinicians have observed that this disease has a major psychosocial impact, often leading to isolation and psychological distress. Until now, there was no comprehensive review of the data to precisely quantify this association.
