Last month, Premier Danielle Smith told a UCP audience in Drayton Valley, Alta., that she would look to transfer authority of some hospitals to other providers to create competition and fear.

Dr. Paul Parks, president of the AMA, said Premier Danielle Smith’s government needs to share its data and show why third-party providers might be better suited to run some facilities than Alberta Health Services.

‘Because if our operator isn’t performing the services we need them to we’re going to take (the hospital) back.’

The suit said the mother went to the hospital after suffering cramps and that she consented under duress to a vaginal exam, causing an “immense amount of pain.''

The mandate will apply to all employees of Alberta Health Services, Alberta Precision Labs, Carewest, CapitalCare and Covenant Health employees, as well as members of the medical and midwifery staffs, student, volunteers and “other persons acting on their behalf.”

President of Treasury Board and Minister of Finance Travis Toews released a statement on July 6 saying that Alberta can no longer pay nurses their current wages as employers and the United Nurses of Alberta (UNA) begin their negotiations.
