The bride wore white (ish): Doctors get married in scrubs on lunch hour

Apparently sometimes even getting married can be hard to fit into your schedule if you are busy, in-demand doctors with fully booked rosters.But that didn’t stop Toronto-based Dr. Amiirah Aujnarain, an immunologist at Kindercare Pediatrics, and Dr. Milad Modabber, an eye surgeon, from tying the knot — which they did over a Monday lunch hour in April.Ahead of their larger, May 24 wedding reception with 200 guests, the pair realized they needed to get the legal part of their wedding taken care of. So instead of planning an entire day, they simply booked the next available lunch-hour appointment for a wedding at Toronto City Hall, which was Monday, April 23."We realized quite late that we needed to do part one of the legal documentation within weeks of our reception and we realized both of our clinics were fully booked," Dr. Aujnarain told PEOPLE magazine. Dr. Aujnarain said that because the couple met through work and love their work, incorporating the legal part of the their wedding into the workday felt natural. "We enjoy that part of our lives, just as much as we love to travel, go on global health missions and try out cuisines from all over the world,” she said.Scrubs and flowersIn a video posted to TikTok, Dr. Aujnarain explained that although her day was mostly business-as-usual at her clinic, instead of wearing regular-coloured scrubs, she wore off-white scrubs and bought a small veil. Dr. Modabber, who works at Herzig Eye Institute, wore his dark navy scrubs and brought his bride a bouquet of her favourite flowers.“It was the epitome of our relationship: juggling so much at the same time but still trying to enjoy every little special moment together,” said Dr. Aujnarain.The couple were in and out of City Hall within the hour and headed back to their respective jobs. “Given that I am Indian and he is Persian, we have many upcoming events, so the planning never ends, but we are excited to merge our beautiful cultures and celebrate all that they have to offer," Dr. Aujnarain told PEOPLE.“For us, we love our careers in medicine, and when you love what you do this much, it does not feel like work. We felt amazing being able to wear our ‘work costume’ as we are proud of what we do and celebrate that in each other and the medical community at large.”Next is a honeymoon trip to Africa in October for a safari.
